ChatGPT is a software that was created by OpenAI and it is an incredibly powerful AI tool that you can use to boost your productivity during the workday. But what exactly is it?
ChatGPT is a large language model, which means that it has been trained on a ton of text data to understand and generate human language. In other words, ChatGPT is like having a personal assistant who never takes a coffee break and NEVER complains! But instead of fetching coffee or making copies, it can help you with all your language-related tasks, like writing emails, reports, and even coming up with new ideas.
How to set up a ChatGPT Account.
The great thing about this software is that it's super easy to set up and you don't have to worry about downloading anything to your computer. This is a web based tool that is completely free to use to the public!
To create an account go to OpenAI, scroll down to the featured section and click on ChatGPT. This will open another tab on your browser and you will be greeted with a welcome page. Go ahead and click "Try ChatGPT" and that will open up the login/sign up page. From there you will either create an account or type in your exisitng credentials to login.
Using ChatGPT With Excel
Now you’re probably wondering, ok… how exactly can I utilize this software to boost my productivity at work? Well for starters, a lot of office workers use Microsoft Excel. If you have used Excel you have probably spent a great amount of time in your workday googling how to use certain formulas you need to complete your task. Sometimes this can take hours off your workday. This is where ChatGPT comes in.
In ChatGPT i asked "How to use the VLOOKUP formula in excel" and within less than a minute it provided me with a paragraph on what the VLOOKUP formula is, how to use it and it even gave me an example formula to use.
You can use ChatGPT for a lot of other things in excel. For example. if a formula you are trying to use is not working, you can write in detail exactly what the issue is and it will generate different solutions on how to fix a an error you are having, etc. The responses generate within minutes and can save you hours of reading through blogs and tutorials on what you are looking for.
Generating Email Responses in ChatGPT
Another way to use ChatGPT to your advantage is to have it generate emails and email responses for you. For our example, let's say you work in Sales and discover a lead and want to send them an email. In ChatGPT I wrote: "Write an email to send to a possible client. Make the email come off as warm, welcoming and encourage the client to book a consultation with us to learn more about our services."

Within less than a minute ChatGPT crafted us a great email template. What I liked about the response it gave us was that it included a subject line, it gave us a decently sized email, and it used professional and sophisticated language. It listened to the prompts i gave it for the email to come off as warm, welcoming and it encourages the client to book a consultation with us.
Sometimes crafting emails like this can take an hour. Using ChatGPT has cut the time in half by using their template. We would change a few things in this template, like adding our company name, and more indepth details about what we do etc. Using ChatGPT for things like this is also useful if you are having trouble coming up with what you want to say. Not only does this give you creativity on how to conduct the email but it also sounds like it's coming from a human and not a robot!
Learning with ChatGPT
Let's take a look at one more example on how you can use this software to your advantage.
Sometimes you might have to do research on a project or task you're doing for work. We found using ChatGPT is great for having it explain a variety of topics. In this example I asked ChatGPT to "Teach me about cyber security and why it's important. I want you to explain it to me like you are talking to a 10 year old"

This tool is super helpful if you want to understand a subject better or just need quick explanations on things! It was short and sweet, got to the point and explained in a way that someone can understand and wasn't overly technical.
