International Women’s Day – The Skycomp Team

Skycomp is a very Women-Led company. We are proud of that. Lets celebrate the amazing women in our office.

Today is International Women’s Day and Skycomp is a VERY woman-led organization. We are proud of it! Today we want to celebrate a few of our talented team that keep Skycomp afloat. We asked the women on our team a few questions to hopefully help other women looking to get into the IT industry a place to start.

Meet just a few of the talented women on the Skycomp Team:

Meet Kara:

Administrative Assistant

When did you start?

I started with Skycomp in June 2020, right smack in the middle of a Pandemic!

What is your greatest achievement or proud moment so far?

Overall starting at a company like Skycomp was an achievement for me. Skycomp is really not your typical workplace. I always strived to be a part of a team that was working towards one goal, who lifted each other up and supported each other and our individual roles to hit our targets, and we hit the nail on the head here. The cherry on top? having colleagues and managers who support the idea of actual FUN in the workplace, not JUST pizza parties!

What’s the best part of your workday?

The best part of my workday is when we get to celebrate the little things. Maybe we had a monetary goal for the day that we hit, maybe we didn’t order lunch, and everyone brought one in (for a change…April). When we drink more than a sip of water in the day, when Serge has a successful meeting with a potential new client, or Morgan didn’t heat up her tea more than 3 times, these are the best parts of my day!

Advice for Women interested in the IT Industry?

Be kind to yourself, and DO NOT be afraid to ask a lot of questions! I started working in the IT industry after 13 years in the Spa industry, two very different things. It is intimidating at first, there is a lot to learn, and it can be challenging at times, but with support and assistance from colleagues and management, it will take a bit of time to learn processes and “techy” language and hardware.

Kara is a joy to have around the office – we all feel that she brings a level of energy that has really changed our company culture in the best way possible. Looking forward to watching your continue to florish at Skycomp.

Meet Morgan:

Office Manager / CFO

When did you start?

I started in January of 2016. I was hired on contract to cover a maternity leave for dispatch. I soon found a passion for the internal systems and began to build out new processes and workflows for the administrative side. I joined the Leadership Team in 2017 and helped grow our back-office team to where we are today.

What is your greatest achievement or proud moment so far?

My greatest achievement so far has been taking over the project department back in August. Since then, we’ve been closing projects on-time and on-budget, while keeping our clients and team informed and up-to-date. I’m also pretty proud of planning and co-hosting Skycomp’s First Dundies Awards…that was just a lot of fun and made some pretty awesome memories for our team!

What’s the best part of your workday?

The best part of my workday is leading our back-office team. I’m fortunate to work alongside an amazing group of women who are passionate about their jobs and care about our partners. Although it can be stressful at times, we always manage to have fun and make each other laugh.

Advice for women interested in the IT industry?

Don’t be afraid! The IT industry is constantly seeking out strong and intelligent female technicians to diversify their team. IT is changing the world and how we operate more than ever before, and I think it’s really important for women to be a part of that change.

Meeting Jaime:

Finance & HR Coordinator

When did you start?

I joined Skycomp August 2019

What is your greatest achievement or proud moment so far?

I came into this office with no real finance or HR experience. As far as being in the office, I had always worked in healthcare settings, in a front desk position where I did not always feel like a valuable team member with many tasks. I am so happy to have fallen into the HR role and take on tasks that I thought I never would have had the chance to try in my career. I feel I have grown into the role and hopefully have helped Skycomp in a positive way!

What’s the best part of your workday?

Coming here is like coming to another family. Everyone is so helpful and communicative and working as a team seems so smooth for us. The company culture here makes a super positive impact on my workday – I enjoy being here!

Advice for Women interested in the IT Industry?

My advice would be to just jump in a take a chance. I was definitely nervous at first as I had no previous IT experience, but you WILL learn. Women are becoming so strong in the workforce; our confidence is pushing us forward- lets keep that going!

Meet April:

Inside Sales Specialist

When did you start?

I started 4 ½ years ago, Started as an administrative assistance and moved into sales!

What is your greatest achievement or proud moment so far?

My greatest achievement was building out the Quote template and organizing sales templates. This helped bring a lot of organization to something that felt very daunting.

What’s the best part of your workday?

The best part of my workday is collaborating with team members.

Advice for Women interested in the IT Industry?

I don’t know what advise I could give for woman in the IT industry as I am really only on the sales end… But… We need more women in this industry! We have so many more women on our team that we haven’t showcased in this blog – they are busy keeping Skycomp working and scheduling out tickets, and keeping our office running. Without them we would be lost.

The female Skycomp team celebrating International Women's Day

Did you know Skycomp has a podcast?

WOW – Look at us go! The first episode is with all the Women from the administrative team at Skycomp. They speak about how they got a start with Skycomp, the many funny stories around the office, and of course lots of wine and laughs. What a perfect way to celebrate International Women’s Day!

Stop worrying about IT.

If our team sounds like a good fit for your organization, we’d love the opportunity to show you how we can help.
