Essential Office Tips Before Leaving for the Holidays

The holiday season is here! It’s the perfect time to relax, recharge, and spend time with the people who matter most. If you’re planning to head out on vacation, you probably already have a packing list ready. But what about wrapping things up at the office? At Skycomp, we know how busy this time of year can be, so we’ve put together a handy checklist to help you leave the office stress-free and secure.

1. Set an Autoreply on Your Emails

Make sure everyone who emails you knows you’re out of the office (and maybe even a little jealous of your plans). Setting an autoreply is quick and easy, and if you’re unsure how to do it, check out our latest video!

Your autoreply should include:

  • The dates you’ll be unavailable.
  • Contact information for someone who can assist in your absence.
  • A friendly holiday message to spread the cheer.

2. Leave Your Computer in Sleep Mode

Surprised? Here’s why: if you’re a Skycomp client, we’ve equipped your device with tools that allow us to remotely connect and address issues, even if you’re away. For example, if we detect suspicious activity like a virus or an unusual login attempt, we’ll investigate and resolve it without needing to interrupt your holiday.

Even if you’re not a Skycomp client, leaving your computer on sleep mode enables your IT team to run updates or troubleshoot issues if needed. Trust us, your IT team will thank you!

3. Tidy Up Your Desk

A clean workspace is a happy workspace—especially when you return after the holidays. Pay extra attention to sensitive information, like passwords written on sticky notes (you know who you are!). Leaving passwords out in the open is a big security risk. Instead:

  • Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for your accounts.
  • Use a password manager to store and secure your login details.

With these precautions, you’ll protect your accounts and enjoy your holiday worry-free.

4. Water Your Plants

Don’t let your leafy friends suffer while you’re away. Give them a good drink before you leave or ask a colleague to care for them in your absence. Happy plants mean a happier office when you return!

We hope this checklist helps you prepare for a smooth departure from the office. From everyone at Skycomp, have a wonderful and secure holiday season!

Stop worrying about IT.
